A breach of contract occurs when one party to the contract performs an act or omission resulting in the violation of previously agreed-upon terms. When such a breach is material, it can lead to legal consequences resulting in a need for monetary compensation to the aggrieved party or specific performance of the essential terms, or other legal remedies as later agreed between the parties or ordered by the courts.
